Tumaas na ulit ang mga ratings ng GMA Telebabad kaya muli na naman daw natataranta ang ABS-CBN 2. Since bumalik ulit ang Encantadia, lahat ng telebabad shows ay umakyat ulit sa 30 plus ratings.

Pinaka-consistent naman na mataas ay ang paborito naming Jewel In The Palace na kahit super late na ay inaabangan pa rin ng marami.

Malaki nga talaga ang following ng Encantadia kaya hindi maiiwasan ng show na ibalik ang mga dating characters. Nauna na si Dawn Zulueta at susunod nang magbabalik ay sina Alfred Vargas at pati na si Jennylyn Mercado.

Kung gayun, may chance kayang ibalik pa si Mark Herras sa Encantadia kahit na namatay na ito sa istorya dahil sa katandaan? Aba, anything is possible sa telebisyon ngayon kaya hintayin na lang natin kung muling magsasaya ang mga Mark-Jennylyn fans sa Encantadia.


Hindi kami na-impress at ilang beses umarko ang kilay namin sa kuwento ni Maui Taylor na ipinalabas sa Magpakailanman nu’ng Huwebes.

Ilang beses kaming tinanong ng katabi namin kung totoo bang nangyari ang mga ‘yun kay Maui. Hindi ko masagot dahil parang ayoko rin maniwalang nangyari iyun.

Ang kuwento ni Nene Tamayo ng Pinoy Big Brother ang pantapat ng Maalaala Mo Kaya pero comment din ng isang kaibigan naming nakapanood, mahina ang casting at hindi ganun ka-impressive ang kuwento.

Wagi sa ratings ang Maui story ng Magpakailanman kesa sa ‘Kumander Nene’ ng Maalaala Mo Kaya.

'Moments of Love' kakaiba! Karylle, inagrabyado nga ba sa 'Moments of Love'?

Huwag na tayong magtaka kung bakit series of presscon ang planong gawin ng GMA Films para sa pelikulang Moments of Love, na pinagbibidahan nina Iza Calzado, Dingdong Dantes at Karylle.

Eh kasi nga, plano ng GMA Films na ipaintindi nang husto sa mga tao, sa tulong ng mga manunulat sa showbiz, na ang pelikulang Moments of Love ay hindi pelikula na magpapakilig, o ‘yung mga ordinaryong pelikula na ang pangunahing hangarin ay pagbigyan ang mga kabataan na makita ang kanilang mga idolo na naglalambingan sa malaking telon.

Nais iparating ng GMA Films sa mga manonood na ang Moments of Love ay kuwento ng isang kakaibang pag-ibig. Hindi ito ordinaryong kuwento lamang, na kung saan ang bidang lalake ay nahulog ang loob sa bidang babae.

Sa trailer pa lang ng pelikula, kapansin-pansin na bukod sa glossy talaga ang dating nito, ang kakaibang paglalahad talaga ng kuwento ang namamayani rito.

Sa pagkakaintindi namin sa kuwento ng Moments of Love, na base sa trailer na napanood namin, sina Iza at Dingdong ay mga tao na nabuhay sa magkaibang panahon.

At tulad sa nauna naming isinulat, ang telepono ang naging ugnayan ng dalawa. Na sa isang pagtunog ng telepono, nagkausap ang dalawa sa hindi inaasahan.

Wala silang kamalay-malay na bagamat nakakapag-usap sila, nabubuhay naman sila sa magkaibang panahon. Si Iza ay nabubuhay sa makalumang panahon (1950) at si Dingdong naman ay sa makabagong panahon (2006).

Binalak nilang magtagpo, pero siyempre, hindi sila nagkita, dahil magkaiba nga ang panahon nila.
"Basta, maiiyak kayo sa bandang huli. Hindi na lang namin sasabihin kung magkikita silang dalawa, pero maiiyak talaga kayo," sabi ni Mrs. Annette Gozon-Abrogar.

Sinisiguro rin ng GMA Films at ni direk Mark Reyes, na hindi agrabyado si Karylle sa kabuuan ng pelikula. Mabigat at markado ang papel na napunta sa kanya



Ang Moments of Love ay isang kuwento ng pag-ibig na tunay at wagas.

Ang bagong pelikulang ito GMA Films ay tungkol sa dalawang
magkasintahang nasa magkaibang panahon.

Ang istorya ng magkasintahan ay puno ng misteryo, sakit, at tamis na magsasalarawan ng tunay na wagas na pag-ibig --
‘tsura ng Somewhere in Time!

Si Divina (Iza Calzado) ay nasa taong 1957 at si Marco (Dingdong Dantes) ay nasa
taong 2006. Kahit 49 na taon ang pagitan ng magkasintahan dahil sa misteryosong
mga pangyayari, magtatagpo ang kanilang mga puso.

Maipagmamalaki ang Moments of Love mula sa cinematography, musical scoring,
pag-arte ng mga artista, at direksyon.

Kasama rin sa cast nito sina Paolo Contis at Karylle. (Hindi
naman siguro kontrabida rito si Karylle, ‘no?!)

Ang istorya ng Moments of Love ay katha ng GMA Films’ President na si Annette Gozon-Abrogar, at ang screenplay ay mula kay Gina Marissa Tagasa.
Ang pelikula ay idinirehe ni Mark Reyes.

Kakaiba ang istorya ng Moments of Love na ipalalabas sa Marso. Hindi ito katulad ng mga love story na kinagawian ng mga manonood na Pilipino.

Angel Locsin sa MAJIKA

Marami nang excited sa bagong show ni Angel Locsin sa GMA na may titulong Majika na magsisimula na sa Marso 13, kapalit ng StarStruck The Nationwide Invasion na magtatapos na sa Marso 12.

Base na rin sa pamagat ay puno ng mahika at salamangka ang bagong serye ni Angel after Darna. Kakaibang Angel daw ang mapapanood dito na nag-aaksyun-aksyon and at the same time ay gumagamit ng magical powers itsura ni Harry Potter (o ni Hermione Granger).

Si Katrina Halili, na nakalaban niya rin noon bilang Black Darna ang kontrabida sa Majika. For a change ay hindi raw masama ang karakter dito ni Jean Garcia.

Si Jean ang magti-train kay Angel sa human world bago ito bumalik sa magical world upang makipagtunggali sa mga kalaban.

Exciting abangan ang mga gagawing stunts ni Angel habang nangangabayo, matapos siyang mag-ensayo kay champion equestrienne Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski na ang mga anak pala ay fans ni Angel.

Sina Eric Quizon at Mac Alejandre ang magdidirek ng Majika, sa panulat ni RJ Nuevas.
Pagkatapos ng Majika, ang dinig namin ay nakatakda namang ilunsad ng GMA sa Abril ang Captain Barbell ni Richard Gutierrez.

Wala pa umanong napipiling bubuo sa cast ng fantaserye dahil tila inaayos pa ang rights nito.
Kung hindi mauudlot ay malamang sa Mayo naman magsimula ang I Love New York na pagbibidahan ng dating mag-sweetheart na Mark Herras at Jennylyn Mercado. Nakapag-ocular na raw ang Siyete sa New York at plantsado na ang naturang proyekto.

Sa Abril nakatakdang umalis ang grupo pa-Amerika para mag-taping ng nasabing serye na ididirehe ni Louie Ignacio.

Marky Cielo, ipinagmamalaki ang dugong igorot

Na-tense ang isa sa mga finalist ng StarStruck The Nationwide Invasion na si Marky Cielo nang hiritan namin na bawat kilos at galaw niya ngayon ay tututukan na ng madla at maging ng kanyang co-survivors dahil siya ang ‘unanimous choice’ ng kanyang mga kasamahan na posibleng maging Ultimate Sole Survivor ng 3rd season ng StarStruck.

Siyam sa 10 survivors ang bumoto kay Marky (si Bugz Daigo ng Cebu ang pinili niya dahil hindi niya pwedeng iboto ang kanyang sarili) at sinabing bilib sila sa talent ng binata, pati na sa pagiging masipag at mabait nito.

Aminado si Marky na malaking pressure ‘yon para sa kanya at mabigat ang papasanin niyang responsibilidad kaya sana raw ay makayanan niya.

In fairness, nu’ng press launch pa lang ng bagong batch ng StarStruck ay standout na si Marky among the boys at agad niyang nakuha ang pansin namin kaya hindi na kami nagtaka na siya ang choice ng lahat ng kanyang co-finalists.

Isa sa mga ikinatuwa namin sa bagets ay ang pagiging proud niya sa kanyang dugong-Igorot. Pinalakpakan ang sagot niya nu’ng presscon na gusto niyang maging unang Igorot na makikilala sa showbiz dahil wala umano siyang kilalang artista na may lahing Igorot (meron kaming isang kakilala pero tila itinatatwa nito ang kanyang katutubong pinagmulan).

Ang lakas ng impact ng ginawang music video ni Marky last week na nakahubad siya at nasa ulanan habang umaawit ng Hanggang Kailan ng Orange and Lemons. Hindi man siya ganu’n kaguwapo at ka-sexy ay ma-appeal si Marky at malakas ang kanyang dating.

Natawa siya at parang nahiya nang sabihin namin na dahil sa music video niya na ‘yon ay mas nagustuhan siya ng mga girlash at bigla siyang naging ‘pantasya’ ng mga bading!

Feeling ni Marky ay hindi siya sexy dahil dati raw ay payat siya pero ngayon ay wala siyang maipagmamalaking abs at may katabaan siya dahil sa kakakain.

Dapat daw ay hindi siya maghuhubad sa kanyang music video pero nu’ng basain siya ng tubig ay pinatanggal na lang sa kanya ang suot niyang shirt.

Buti na lang daw at maganda ang kinalabasan nito kahit na ginaw na ginaw siya sa rain effect nu’ng sinu-shoot nila ‘yon.

Panganay sa dalawang magkakapatid ang 17-anyos na si Mark Angelo ‘Marky’ Cadawen Cielo.

Purong Igorot na taga-Mt. Province, Cordillera ang kanyang ina at tubong-Butuan sa Mindanao ang kanyang ama. Nagkakilala ang mga ito sa Butuan, kung saan din ipinanganak at lumaki si Marky.

Nasa high school na siya nang lumipat sila sa Mt. Province at doon na siya nagtapos nito. First year, 2nd semester na dapat siya ng kursong Architecture sa St. Louis University sa Baguio kung hindi siya nakapasok sa StarStruck nang mag-audition siya sa Dagupan.

Hindi raw niya pangarap ang maging isang artista, subok-subok lang. Sinuwerte naman na napili siya mula sa mga nag-audition sa Luzon kaya ngayong nandito na siya ay pinagbubuti niya ang lahat ng kanyang ginagawa.

Artistic at mahilig mag-drawing si Marky. Walang Fine Arts course sa SLU Baguio kaya Architecture na lang ang kinuha niya sa kolehiyo.

Parehong dito sa Maynila nagtatrabaho ang kanyang mga magulang pero hiwalay na ang mga ito. Kasama niya ngayon ang kanyang ina sa isang nirerentahang bahay sa may Ortigas.

Nakakaisang girlfriend pa lang daw ang bagets pero break na sila ng nasabing girl na schoolmate niya sa Baguio. Ayon kay Marky ay ‘torpe’ siya pagdating sa babae.

Ayaw niya pang sabihin sa amin nu’ng una kung sino ang crush niya sa batch nila pero napaamin din namin si Marky na type niya si Rea Nakpil ng Rizal na na-eliminate na sa programa.


Si Marky, kasama sina Chuck Allie ng Davao at Jana Roxas ng Tarlac ang tatlong survivors na nabunot ni Tito Douglas Quijano para i-handle ngayong linggong ito sa StarStruck The Nationwide Invasion.

Ang dalawa pang managers ay sina Tita Lolit Solis (sina Iwa Moto, Arci Munoz at Gian Carlos ang nabunot) at Tita Malou Choa-Fagar (sina Bugz Daigo, Vivo Ouano at Jackie Rice ang iha-handle).

Unang week pa lang ng pinaka-aabangan na Jewel in the Palace and everyone is raving over it already! Eh kasi naman, talagang maganda ang Koreanovela na into. It was surprising that people from different cultures get to appreciate it as much as they did. KAALIW ang KORTENG MANI sa Nuts Entertainment. Mag-guguest si ETHEL BOOBA pero hindi ako sure kung kailan ‘yon ipalalabas, pero dapat ninyong abangan kung paano natameme si Janno Gibbs kay Ethel Booba.

Eh kasi naman, si Ethel ang isinalang nila sa portion nilang Korteng Mani. Ang eksena kunwari ay nasa korte sila, si Janno ang prosecutor o tagausig kay Ethel.

Ang paksang pinag-usapan ay kung totoo nga bang ‘Pasaway’ si Ethel!
Sa simula, ipinakita ng depensa (abogado ni Ethel) na si Anjo Yllana ang pagiging sikat ni Ethel. Binanggit nga niya ang mga artistang nalaos agad dahil walang kagimik-gimik sa buhay.

Hindi nga raw tulad ni Ethel na maraming isyung kinasangkutan (ke gimik o totoo), kaya hanggang ngayon ay sikat na sikat pa rin at patuloy na pinag-uusapan.

Unang tanong ni Janno kay Ethel, totoo ba na hindi marunong makisama si Ethel sa ex-boyfriend niyang si Alex Crisa-no?

Sa-got ni Ethel, hindi ‘yon totoo, dahil ginawa niya ang lahat ng pakikisama kay Alex noong sila pa. Naintindihan niya ang lahat ng mga ginawa ni Alex, kaya nga raw umabot ng matagal ang kanilang relasyon.

Pero, biglang binanggit ni Ethel ang lahat ng kasalanan ni Alex sa kanya. Ultimo ‘yung paggamit daw ni Alex ng droga.

Sa sinabing ‘yon ni Ethel, natulala si Janno. Nagtakip ng mukha, dahil hindi niya inaasahan na magbubuga si Ethel ng kung anu-ano sa harap ng kamera.

Sabi ni Janno, mas maganda kung ika-cut na lang ang eksenang ‘yon, dahil ayaw nilang makasagasa ng ibang tao. Mas maganda nga raw kung matawa ang mga tao sa portion na ‘yon, kesa magalit sa kanila.

Ang kasunod na isyung inilabas ni Janno ay ‘yung tungkol sa iskandalo ng sex video na kinasangkutan ni Ethel. Nagpakita ng kanyang ebidensiya si Janno tungkol sa iskandalo ng sex video ni Ethel.

Ipinakita niya kay Ethel ang hawak niyang cellphone na may kamera na kung saan ay may isang babae na tsumutsurba (term ni Ethel sa ginawa ng babae, na hindi ko na idedetalye pa, basta may kinalaman ‘yon sa pagpapaligaya ng babae sa isang lalake).

Siyempre, itinanggi ni Ethel ang naturang sex video. Hindi raw siya ‘yon.

Na pinaniwalaan ko naman dahil hindi maitim ang ex-boyfriend ni Ethel na si Alex.

Hindi ko na iisa-isahin pa ang lahat ng rebelasyon ni Ethel sa Korteng Mani para may maabangan pa kayo. Pero, sa bandang huli ng portion na iyon, na kung saan ay magsasalita na ang jury, tinanong ni Jun Nardo si Ethel kung tsumutsurba ba ito.

"Hindi ako tsumutsurba kapag may video camera!" say ni Ethel.

Anyway, sa bandang huli ay nagsalita ang abogado ni Ethel na si Anjo. Sinabi niya na ang ibig sabihin ng tsumutsurba ay ‘yung pagpapa-picture.

Siyanga pala, inamin din ni Ethel na nanliligaw siya kay Brad (hindi ko alam ang apelyido). Nakasama ni Ethel si Brad sa isang episode ng Extra Challenge. Si Brad nga ‘yung mahaba ang buhok na kulut-kulot na sobrang guwapo.

"Wala namang masama kung ako ang manligaw sa lalake. Dati kasi, ako ang nililigawan, at hindi naman ako nagiging masaya. Kaya ngayon, ako na ang manliligaw, para makapamili ako ng lalake na magpapasaya sa akin!" walang kakurap-kurap na say ni Ethel.

Abangan niyo ang episode na ‘yon ng Nuts Entertainment sa GMA 7, dahil siguradong sasakit ang mga tiyan niyo. ‘Yun ay kung hindi puputulin ng management ng GMA 7 ang mga nakakabaliw na eksena ni Ethel, ha!

Julia Clarete, pasok sa Hollywood film na 'UN Murder'!

NAKATAKDANG lumipad patungong Hollywood si Julia Clarete sa February upang tuparin na ang commitment sa kanya bilang grand winner sa reality show na Hollywood Dream.

Two weeks lang munang mawawala ng bansa si Julia, ayon sa kanyang manager na si Henry (hindi namin naitanong ang apelyido niya, ‘no!) nang magkita kami sa Eat Bulaga studios.

Ayon pa sa manager ng aktres, ang title ng movie niyang gagawin ay UN Murder pero hindi pa niya alam kung sinu-sino ang kasama niyang artist. Gusto lang niyang siguruhin na meron silang pipirmahang kontrata sa mga detalye ng activities ni Julia nang sa gayon ay alam niya ang mangyayari sa alaga.

Tanging ang local counterpart ng Hollywood Dream dito ang makakasama ni Julia sa kanyang pag-alis. Mabuti na lang daw at nasa Amerika rin ang mother at brother nito, kaya kampante si Henry na merong mag-aasikaso sa kanya roon.

'Eat Bulaga', nanatiling No.1!

HINDI man daw aminin, halata na nagkaproblema raw sa pagitan ng GMA-7 at Eat Bulaga last year dahil sa mga pelikula nilang Enteng Kabisote 2 at Mulawin The Movie. Pero, dahil mga disente ang mga taong involved, agad din itong naayos. Hindi na ito lumaki at pinagpiyestahan pa sa palengke!

At para patunayan na wala na silang problema, at matigil na ‘yang usap-usapan na ‘yan na iiwanan na ng Eat Bulaga ang GMA-7, heto at naglabas na ng statement ang GMA 7 tungkol sa Eat Bulaga:

"Eat Bulaga remains the undisputed No. 1 noontime show," nakasaad sa press release na in-email ng GMA sa amin.

Narito pa ang karugtong:

"Eat Bulaga, which airs on GMA Network, maintains its status as the undisputed No. 1 noontime show after all these years. A lot of shows have been pitted against this daily variety show, hoping to be the one to topple it, but to no avail. The show, whose 25th Anniversary Celebration last year won in the recent Asian TV Awards for Best Entertainment (On-Off/Annual) Special, has far outlived all of its rival programs.

"In 2005 alone, the rival network pitted three shows against Eat Bulaga, and not once were any of its rival programs able to sustain a lead against it. After the first of these rival programs folded up in early February last year, the competition put two back-to-back shows in its timeslot: first a game show followed by a variety show. From the time these two shows began in February up to the present, Eat Bulaga consistently dominated the ratings, according to the AGB Panel Data Mega Manila TV Household Ratings.

"The two rival programs began at 18.9% and 15.6% respectively against Eat Bulaga’s 25.4% in February, according to AGBNMR. Eat Bulaga maintained its lead for the rest of the months of 2005, even getting ratings as high as 26.4% for August while the two rival programs only garnered ratings of 17.4% and 17.6% for the same month. Eat Bulaga averaged 24.7% for the January-November 2005 period, while the two rival programs only got 18% and 17.5%, respectively, for the same period.

"And contrary to recent claims by these rival programs that they have overcome Eat Bulaga, the leading noontime show on GMA-7 still maintains its lead for the month of December. According to the Joint Venture Mega Manila TV Household Rating, Eat Bulaga reigns with 22.4% against the two rival programs’ 14.8% and 16.2% for the period of December 1-10.

"The ratings prove that Filipino viewers would still much rather have Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, and the rest of the wacky Eat Bulaga hosts as their noontime companions, still very much enjoy their jokes and antics in "Bulagaan", and are still excited to join or even just watch the noontime program’s many contests, including the highly popular "Laban o Bawi".

Annabelle Rama, walang choice kundi papirmahin uli ng kontrata si Richard Gutierrez sa Regal Films?

TWENTY days prior to its playdate, the pre-Valentine presentation of Regal and GMA Films -- I Will Always Love You -- hasn’t finished its principal photography yet.

Reminds us of last two minutes rush in basketball or the race to the wire in racing. To think that plans for the movie started a year ago, right after the successful Let The Love Begin which opened on Valentine’s Day last year.

That Feb. 14, 2005 presentation was produced by GMA Films and distributed by Regal. Now here, they have a joint venture.

A lot of other commitments for Richard Gutierrez and Angel Locsin went in their work here. Richard has three times a week work on the Sugo series and earlier Angel had Darna for GMA 7.

And there was Mulawin The Movie which must be finished on time for the December filmfest.
Of course, the IWALY stars, staff and crew went all the way to San Francisco (California) where filming was made in the area and its environs (like Daly City which has a lot of Pinoys).

There were kinks in the filming, too. Some days worth of expensive shooting had to be scrapped and re-shot when film negatives were damaged. And there was the fog to contend with. Foggy in Daly City. Foggy in downtown San Francisco. And when the film crew would try to film the bridge, it would be completely invisible due to the huge blanket of fog.

It was only on the last day of filming, when the cast and crew seemed to have given up that the fog miraculously lifted for two hours or so. Thus, you can see the all-important scene where Angel and Richard see the Golden Gate bridge, the famous San Francisco landmark, for the first time in the movie.

Due to the cold and perhaps work, Angel too got sick while there. The doctor at the hospital diagnosed as acute bronchitis which needed her to rest in the middle of the filming there.
Back in the homeland, with the playdate set on Feb. 8, there’s still the problem between Mother Lily and Annabelle Rama unsolved.

Anyway, Richard Gutierrez promises to finish the movie -- with two or three days of work still to go.

And he is optimistic too that upon the expiration of his contract with Regal this year, he will be renewing his contract with Regal still. Which means that he believes that both his mom and his producer can iron out their differences on him before that time comes.

Of course, Annabelle Rama seems to have no choice to sign up Richard with Regal. After all, besides Star Cinema of ABS-CBN, only Regal is active in film production. Pulling Richard out of Regal is at this time a bad move.

Harry and Gerald Santos: Spot the difference

This isn’t a battle between blood relatives. This is strictly a singing competition. But with two beguiling Santoses in the early slate of Pinoy Pop Superstar’s grand contenders, we can’t help but explore the difference between the two!

Gerald Santos and Harry Santos are two unrelated teens from different worlds brought together by their singing prowess. They bring their unique qualities to the 2nd season of Pinoy Pop Superstar. Harry, 16 is becoming a ladies man this early thanks to his captivating Josh Groban vocal flair while Gerald, 15, has impressed audiences with an unprecedented score of 99% in the defending rounds of previous episodes.

These teenage boys have striking differences which set them apart from each other but at the same time, pull them closer to the appreciative hearts of the listening crowd. Harry is from a well-off family, while Gerald grew up in a lower income community. Harry is in his college, while Gerald is in his 3rd year in high school. Harry infatuates on young Nadine Samonte, while Gerald dreams of meeting working mom, Carmina Villaroel. And when asked what they would do with the Php1 million, they gave different views. Harry says he’ll buy a house where he and his family can stay together, while for Gerald, depositing the money first in the bank would be ideal so that in case he loses the singing contest, he’ll still have cash to spend on rainy days.

Although having different backgrounds, these two aspiring singers share some similarities as well. Harry and Gerald’s love for singing were inspired by the death of their loved ones. It was when Harry’s beloved grandmother died that his family heard his powerful voice. Gerald, on the other hand, couldn’t stop thinking of his uncle who passed away too. It’s undeniable that they are highly attached to their families and relatives. It’s also no longer surprising that both consider building a career in the musical world. Harry says “Gusto kong magkaroon ng experience and mag-enjoy hangga’t kaya ko pang kumanta.” And Gerald? “Maraming nagsasabing maganda boses ko and gusto ko rin po talaga [kumanta].”

GMA ANIME PICK for the WEEK; HUNTER X HUNTER

SYNOPSIS

Gon Freecs, a young boy living with his aunt on Whale Island, thought his father to be dead. That is until a chance meeting with the Hunter Kaito. It is through Kaito that Gon learns of the rich legacy of Hunters, people whom explore the unknown aspects of the world in all its facets. Gon also learns that his father, Jin Freecs, is not only alive but is in fact the greatest Hunter in the world. It is with this knowledge that Gon ventures out into the world with the goal of becoming a Hunter and finding the whereabouts of his father, all the while making several friends and having many adventures of his own.

REVIEW

The lack of fandom surrounding Hunter X Hunter is somewhat enigmatic to me. It is a title that, by all rights, should have a huge buzz behind it. Not only is Hunter X Hunter the work of Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of Yu Yu Hakusho, but it is also far superior to other currently running big-hype titles, the most prominent of which is Naruto. It manages to be enormously entertaining through its unique concoction of animation, characterization, and plot, without resorting to the cliches that have all too often ruined a seemingly novel show of a similar vein. And yet Hunter X Hunter remains little known. With any luck this review will have a hand in lifting the veil of obscurity that currently surrounds this magnificent title.

To begin with, the story of Hunter X Hunter is vibrant and imaginative, though not at all difficult. Right from the start the aim of this series is made clear, the eventual reunion of Gon with his father. However, the path that is taken to achieve this end is full of twists and turns that continuously succeed in keeping this tale fresh. The viewer is ceaselessly wisked between offbeat situations as varied as the dangerous wilderness to a battle-stage tower with over two hundred floors of increasingly difficult fighting tournaments. It is through these atypical situations that we come to understand the motivations of our lead and become endeared to his cause. A superb level of attention in plotting is also dedicated to the other prominent cast members, including Gon’s companions Killua, Leorio, and Kurapica. Though the centerpiece here is Gon, none of the supporting roles go underdeveloped. In fact the only problem with plotting is that the story takes a few episodes to really get churning. If you can make it to about episode six or seven though, you will be fully strapped in for one hell of a fun ride.

A rather unexpected facet of this title is how lightly the plot focuses on fighting, especially given that Togashi’s most famous work, Yu Yu Hakusho, was often little more than a continuous battle-fest. To be certain, fighting does take place and at some points in the series it becomes quite prominent, but it never manages to wrestle the spotlight away from the fleshier portions of the narrative. Despite this, the action leaves very little to be desired. The fight-action sets here are more complex than the typical ki-blasting, as fast-as-light-movement farce that has become the industry standard for fighting anime. Instead we are treated to a truly creative power-leveling system and a diversity of combat styles that make each fight more than simply diversionary but instead truly engaging. It is as if the battle scenes have actually added to the tension and excitement of the plotline rather than flattened it, a rare occurrence indeed.

Leaving just a bit more to be desired of Hunter X Hunter, however, are the peripherals. Musically, while not bad, HXH just does not manage to live up to its more palatial qualities. Still, the music is good enough and has continuously improved throughout the series. I have personally enjoyed the opening and closing music more and more with each successive theme change that occurs. Additionally the animation is mostly quite nice. It certainly isn’t spectacular by any stretch of the imagination, but it is visually appealing. There is also a definite change for the better in terms of animation the further one progresses through the show. The set pieces have strong appeal as well, and are reasonably effective at immersing us in this strange and phenomenal world.

The most remarkable aspect of Hunter X Hunter, however, lies within its remarkable characters. Most of the cast here is not at all generic or formulaic, a welcome retreat from the chiefly derivative characters so prominent in similar shows. Gon, the show’s lead, is a charismatic young boy whose optimism and innocence is always invigorating without being imposing. An odd tidbit, Gon is virtually never the strongest character on the screen, by a long shot. A partial reason for this is that his goal isn’t necessarily to be the strongest being in existence but primarily to better himself. This is another big plus in the personality department that sets Gon apart from your conventional “Shonen Jump Hero Archtype”. Gon’s optimism is offset well by the darker, more brooding persona of Killua, a young boy that Gon befriends early in the show. Together they make for perhaps the most interesting pair of best friends in all of anime. Their companions, Leorio and Kurapica, also make for complex and interesting characters. Leorio is a man who, haunted by his past, is motivated to the performance of benevolent acts to the benefit of humanity. Kurapica, conversely, is motivated by revenge, though revenge is an ideal that is out of character for him. Consequently, Kurapica always seems to be a man at odds with himself.

Equally compelling are the more contemptible figures of this tale such as Hisoka, Kuroro, and the rest of the Genei Ryodan. The interplay of these vastly different personalities is the bread and butter of Hunter X Hunter.
It should be no secret that Hunter X Hunter has bewitched me. Beyond some very minor failings, it is nearly beyond fault. It carries with it a sort of energy and charm that is very intoxicating. To put it most concisely, Hunter X Hunter should be considered Yoshihiro Togashi’s new masterwork. Any less firm a designation would be an injustice against this superb animated opus.

However, Gon has seen his father only in the picture because Aunt Mito who raised him told him that Jin is dead, but he actually not. Gon went to attend the test wishing that if he passes it, he'll have the clues to meet his father. Gon is a very friendly boy. Most animals like him. (Animals will like a good Hunter.) He was raised by Aunt Mito. He grew up with a lot of special skills because his areas are forest and the sea. Gon understand birds' language. He has a very special eye view and great speed. He also has a very powerful body strength and recovery. His weapon is a fish-hook. Gon can get along with anyone and he rarely gets mad at somebody. The only time when he got mad at Irumi (Killua's bro), he broke Kitaracle arm with just a twist! Gon met Kurapika, Reorio, and Killua along the way to the Hunter Test. Gon and Killua get along best. They paired up and traveled together after the Test is ended.

Killua (Kirua)
Age : 12
Killua came from the killer family. (very rich too) Everyone of the Zoldick family (his last name) is a killer. Killua was the most skilled of all, but he didn't really want to be a killer. All his family members were expecting him to be the best killer. Father: Silver. Mother: ???. Grandpa: Zeno Brothers: Irumi (Kitaracle) and Milky. Sister: Culto. His nickname is Kil. Killua ran away from home to enter the Hunter Test just because he has nothing else to do. He thought it would be exciting, but it actually not to Killua. He said the Test was boring. Killua met Gon at the Test and they seem to get along best. He sometimes travels by a skateboard. Killua's hands are as sharp as a knife (he's the best of the Soldick!) His skills are a lot better than Gon because he was trained by a tougher lesson than the Hunter Test. Killua can drink any poison without any harm. Killua doesn't talk much to other people. He and Gon later became best friends. They traveled together after the Test was over. * Some people spelled his name as Kirua, but I spelled his name "Killua" as it is written in the manga. You can see it written on the scene where Killua and Gon went to the Skyscraper Battle Arena where the Battle Olympia is held.


Kurapika
Age: Teenage
Kurapika came from Kurata Tribe. The Kuratas' eyes will turn to a reddish-color when they are very angry and if they were kill at that time, the color will not change forever. This color is said to be one of the most beautiful color in the world. He was the only one survived. The rest of the Kuratas were killed by a very cruel group of thugs called "Genei Ryodan" or the Spider. This Genei Ryodan used a 12-leg spider as their symbol. If he passes the Hunter Test, he could get more information on the Genei Ryodan. His goal was to take back all his friends' eyes and revenge for them. Kurapika is the cleverest of all. He has lots of knowledge because he read many books. He is normally calm, but if he sees a spider, any spider, his eyes will turn red and became so mad because it reminds him of the Genei Ryodan. His weapon is a double-sword.

Reorio (Leolio)
Age: Teenage
Reorio is the clumsiest and less skilled of the four. He wanted to be a Hunter because of money. His friend died of sickness because he has no money to pay for the doctor fees. Reorio is although seems like a hot-head guy, he is very caring and won't give up easily. His dream is to be a doctor who cure people without charging. His best skills are curing people from sickness and curing the wounded injuries. After he passes the Hunter Test, he begins to study hard for the Doctor Exam.
